I have done it!? Finishing off with the guy who, in the series, started it all. With Petyr Baelish, I’ve painted the last of all the miniatures I had from the ASOIAF Kickstarter. Looking back at the start of this series, it’s been almost four years in which I’ve been painting my haul. I did of course paint other things in between, so while I’m a slow painter, I’m not that slow!
More screaming barbarians! Lots more progress in February and if anything I’ve managed to increase my pace! At this point all the miniatures from the A Song of Ice and Fire Kickstarter have been painted1.
Far more impressive though is the fact that that I have already managed to paint a whooping 50 Britons so far. With the ten I managed to complete at the tail end of January, I’m now 75% through the Britons.
It’s (well-past) the end of January and I’ve managed to make an unbelievable amount of proress on this year’s painting challenge. I managed to paint a good 35% of my yearly target. At this rate, I’ll be done by the end of March, which would be quite the accomplishment given my usual painting speed.
The Roman part of the boxset is now complete. I had 20 remaining Romans as well as the Scorpio + crew.
Voila, regiment number two fighting for the Starks. These guys were a lot quicker to paints than the first one, mainly because I already had a finished color scheme to rely on. It was also much quicker to paint the white wolves on their shields and tunics. Originally I would use a Ceramite White basecoat and then White Scar on top. This always turned out to a lumpy texture, something I’ve since learned is due to the pigment being Titanium Oxide, which is tends to clump.
Finally done! I have to admit, these took me far longer than I would have liked. They sat on my painting table all through and since I painted the Cherusci Warrior through October and November. It was a bit of a slog to get back into painting and to actually finish them, but now that they’re done, I’m actually very happy with them.
The snow bases I’ve wanted to do for a while now.
Here come the Mountain's Men That’s the Mountain’s Men done as well. I’ve also painted the Mountain himself, but for some bizarre reason, I made his cloak green, instead of yellow. So I will need to repaint him at some point. For now, I’m putting the brush down on this project and turning to my historicals for a bit. I’ll be back on this one with the first Stark unit.
Painted and based These knights were a lot more work than I had initially anticipated. I could swear I emptied a whole pot of red paint on them! My worry was initially that they would be too red, but looking at them, the armour breaks up the single colour quite nicely. Plus the gold highlights add a splash of contrasting colour.
Now I just need the Mountain, his Men and Jamie Lannister and the Red Force is done!
Painted and based This brings the total to two Lannister Guardsmen units, as well as Tyrion and Cersei of which I’ve not taken any pictures.
Next up: A unit of Knights of Casterly Rock (Or The Mountain, but probably the Knights…)
What have I done?! So a while back I backed the Kickstarter for the boardgame A Song of Ice and Fire by CMON Games, which is not based on the TV series Game of Thrones, but the original books. I thought the models looked great1, so I splurged and backed whatever the highest tier was that would get me all the special Kickstarter-only minis.
And now they just arrived.
