New Year, New Challenge 2023

Last year’s painting challenge was a resounding success! I even managed to complete it within the first quarter and then go and paint dozens more miniatures in the rest of the year. So with that in mind, I’m starting a new painting challenge for this year. One that will finish off the vast majority of my remaining Pile of Shame. Actually, it will clear all built and unpainted plastic models. The only things left will be Lord of the Rings metal hero models1 and the free sprues that you get with the various wargaming magazines.

Those Damn Cultists

Adam, Rasputin, Borden, Sister Beth, The Kid If you’ve been following my twitter feed for the past couple of weeks, you’ll have seen these minis already in isolation. Now they’re toegether for the first time and what a solid start to the year! With fully half of the investigators that came in the Cthulhu: Death May Die boxset already painted! They are of course lovely little miniatures. Just the right amount of detail to be fun painting, but not so much that you feel like you’re never making any progress.

The Prussians Are Coming

The Prussians are coming It’s time to branch out from collecting and painting just Games Workship models. Goodbye Stormcast Eternals, hello Napoleonics. I started by painting a regiment of Prussian Line Infantry that I got from Perry Miniatures as the 1st Silesian Regiment (on a whim, because the facings looked nice). This was really just to dabble a bit in historical miniature wargaming. Now though, I want to add to the list and the 1st Silesian was part of the 11th Brigade in the II Corps at the 1813 Battle of Leipzig.

A Song of Ice and Fire Kickstarter

What have I done?! So a while back I backed the Kickstarter for the boardgame A Song of Ice and Fire by CMON Games, which is not based on the TV series Game of Thrones, but the original books. I thought the models looked great1, so I splurged and backed whatever the highest tier was that would get me all the special Kickstarter-only minis. And now they just arrived.
